eHaberdasher Men’s shoulder bag

Posted on 5 December 2013 by Charlie

Luxury menswear online retailer eHaberdasher has collaborated with SAHEL Design to make this leather bag exclusively for them. Made in chestnut brown antique effect sheep leather, it is a practical shoulder bag with removable straps so it can also be used like a briefcase. It’s big enough for a laptop and has inside pockets for other gadgets and documents.

But what’s really unique about it is all the hand-crafted details – the metal buckle frames were individually made by a local bronzesmith following the ancient lost-wax casting method (watch the video of them being made here) and the shoulder strap was hand woven by traditional horse reins makers in their village in the Sahel. Not only that, but eHaberdasher are donating 100% of the sales proceeds of this bag towards the installation of water pumps in rural locations.

The bag itself was hand stitched together by a leatherworker with the Disabled Artisans Cooperative Tigoung Nonma, Abas Koanda. Each bag took him 3 days to make. Here’s a short video showing how he does it.

The bag retails at £144, available from www.eHaberdasher.com
The music (used with permission) is ‘Dounouya’ by Siaka Diarra, a local musician.
