The reversible cotton hobo

Posted on 16 March 2015 by Charlie

Last week we posted about the reversible leather shopper with adjustable strap. This week we’ve got another reversible number for you. It’s made from hand woven cotton , with a hand woven leather shoulder strap.

Like all SAHEL Design bags, the bag strap derives from a traditional West African horse harness – in this case the same weave used for a horse’s girth, so it is really comfortable and strong. The strap is attached and finished with bound, plaited cord, which is used traditionally as stirrup leathers.

The cotton bag itself has got two sides – one bogolan (so dyed using the traditional mudcloth technique) and the other in bright summery green, turquoise or yellow. It’s really easy to reverse, as this short video shows. It’s got an invisible pocket that works well inside or out. Priced £70, $100 or 98 Euros available to order – normal delivery time 3-6 weeks. Please contact us if you would like to place an order (no minimum quantity required). If you are a retailer, please let us know if we can send you a catalogue with full details of our new collection.

The video soundtrack is ‘Ouagadougou’ by Desire Sankara.

I have bought two of your bags when I visited friends in Burkina Faso. I live in New York and I am wondering whether I could find your bags somewhere. I would love to buy more. Please let me know.

Hi Louise, thanks for your comment and apologies for the slow response! We don’t currently have any New York stockists, but we can certainly ship products from our online shop there. Warm wishes, Charlie
